Happy Birthday Erin Andrews

Sideline reporter Erin Andrews is turning 30 on May 4.  The fine folks at Busted Coverage want to allow you to wish her Happy Birthday.  Sign the card and they’ll send it to ESPN for the beautiful Florida grad to peruse.

Wedding

If you don’t see anything from me on here for a little while, it’s because I’m getting married this weekend.  I’ll be back to post after I get back from my Mexico honeymoon the 2nd week of May.

I may even post some pictures if anyone cares.

Go Stars while I’m gone

Don’t feel bad for Avery

Not that most of you do, but don’t worry about Avery Johnson.  He’ll have a new job that pays more than he was supposed to make next year by the end of May.  Sadly for me, this is the 1st New Orleans person that has something to do with Dallas sports to get fored.  Ron Washington could be next.  That will leave all of North Texas with me as the only New Orleans native in sports left.  I think my job is secure…. or is it?

Adios Avery

It’s official and it took less than 24 hours for it to happen. Avery Johnson and the Mavericks agreed to go their seperate ways this afternoon. Don’t feel bad for Avery though, he is going to get a big check from Mark Cuban and he’s going to be hired by someone else, probably before the Mavs hire his replacement.

It had to happen – Avery lost control of this team. The final nail in his coffin probably came about when the players held a players only practice on Monday. Johnson told the team earlier that day that practice was cancelled but the players decided they wanted to practice and they wanted to practice without the coaches present. That in and of itself says a lot about where this team was. A players only meeting happens all of the time, a players only practice doesn’t.

Believe

Yes it’s the Stars cheesy post-season slogan but this is a slogan you can buy into.  The Stars skated hard all night long and are now a virtual lock to move on to the conference finals.  Were it not for an unfortunate short handed goal, Dallas wouldn’t have even needed overtime.

Dallas seemed to have learned its lesson from the Anaheim series.  Just like in that series, the Stars were up 2 nothing coming back home to Dallas.  But unlike that game 3, Dallas had no let up in last nights game.  Tonights game will tell us if this team has truly learned their lesson about going all out.  The Stars now have a choice, either they can continue to play hard and close out this series or they can take the night off and give the Sharks some semblance of hope.

Romo Gambles Away $2.5 Million In Vegas

“What happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay in Vegas!”  According to Robin Leach’s Blog, Tony Romo was seen in Las Vegas with Jessica Simpson, Jason Witten, Anthony Fasano and Marco Rivera over the NFL draft weekend.  Below is an excerpt from Leach’s blog.

“It began when Jessica, Tony and the players all hit the Peacock Lounge for high limit blackjack. Jessica was said to have won $5,000 and then they retired to their penthouse while the others went onto the Body English nightclub. The couple even spent some time tanning in the sunshine rays at the new $8 million makeover pool at the Hard Rock while watching the NFL draft on their private cabana HD TV screens. At some point, however, allegedly Tony, who was rumored to be paid a $15,000 appearance fee at Body English took the money and went gambling. My spywitnesses tell me that by the time he was finished he’d lost a fortune and I swear to you I was told that the figure could have run as high as a whopping $2.5 million. Whatever the staggering loss totaled it immediately put a damper on their fun weekend. I’m reliably told Hard Rock officials offered to pay Jessica a bonus $25,000 if she’d co-host at Body English the second night with Tony.

Allegedly a livid Jessica refused because she’s paid far more for personal appearances and the fun weekend had suddenly turned into a commercial gig. Also she was said to be “angry beyond words” over his gambling and the large loss.”

More on Cowboys Draft

Here’s what College Football News had to say about the Cowboys draft picks:

22 Dallas   Felix Jones, RB Arkansas
He’ll be the back for someone trying to get a speed runner on the cheap. Don’t want to pay the high price to get a McFadden, Mendenhall or Stewart? Then wait for Jones and roll the dice on a jack-of-all-trades back with a ton of tread on the tires and devastating breakaway speed. The big question is whether or not he’s a workhorse No. 1 back. He wasn’t in college and he’s not built like a 25-carry-a-game NFL runner. Ideally he fills a Reggie Bush role on a team with a Deuce McAllister and is used to run and catch on the outside and not between the tackles. With his ability to go from 0-to-60 in a heartbeat, he’s the type of player who makes offensive coordinators drool at the possibilities. He’ll be a fun toy to play with.
CFN Projection: Late First Round to Early Second Round    CFN Position Rank:
4
25 Dallas (from Seattle)   Mike Jenkins, CB South Florida
A tremendous three-year starter on a good USF defense, Jenkins is a true shut-down corner who isn’t afraid to get physical and can all but erase the top receivers when he has his game on. The question is his motor. If it’s going full-tilt and he wants it, he looks like an all-star. When he suffers lapses or doesn’t get up for the competition, he can be beaten by average receivers. He needs to bring it game in and game out. It would be nice if he picked off more passes, taking away just six despite being a four-year regular, but that’s a bit misleading.

It’s Ladies Night in the NHRA

Congrats to Ashley Force for becoming the first woman to ever win an NHRA funnycar event.

She beat her dad, John, yesterday at the Southern Nationals in Commerce, GA.

Ashley had a winning run of 4.837 seconds at 320.36 mph in her Castrol GTX Mustang to take a 59 point
lead over Tim Wilkerson in the season standings.

She’s got to be the fastest lady on the planet.

The Cowboys stayed busy on Day 2.

Trade

The Cowboys have traded with Seattle.  They swap first rounds, 25 for a 27 and give up a 5 and a 7.

With the pick the Cowboys take Mike Jenkins.  They get their top rated CB and their top rated RB (I still can’t believe that.)

Only time will tell if this has been a good first round
